MEET
THE BELL
STARS
The BELL STARS are from Baltimore
County, Maryland and are quite well known for their abilities with handbells
and sign language. Members range in age from 12 to 50 and have various disabilities
including Downs Syndrome, mental retardation, cerebral palsy, and/or other health
and learning handicaps. They have performed throughout Baltimore County (churches,
schools, civic organizations) as well as through the state (including the Maryland
Music Educators Conventions). They are a non-profit organization and use donations
and gifts to defray costs for their bells, gloves, robes, shirts, travel/trip
expenses, and special social events.
The BELL STARS message is about opportunities more than
disabilities. The director, Mrs. Pat Shelton, is an active advocate for awareness,
sensitivity, and opportunities for ALL persons, regardless of handicaps and
challenges. She is currently employed by the Baltimore County Public Schools
as a music teacher in a special education school. Pat also serves as Family
Ministry Coordinator at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church and serves as the disabilities
liaison for the Maryland-Delaware Synod of the Lutheran Church Task Force On
Disabilities and on the Learning Ministries Team.
BELL STARS meet from 7:00 - 9:00 PM on the third Friday of each month at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 8212 Philadelphia Road, Rosedale, MD. Church phone number is 410-866-8766. We welcome All God's People with disabilities to come and join our fellowship. Sunday School class is also offered on Sunday mornings from 9:30 - 10:30 AM at the church. Emphasis is placed on God's love and acceptance of all people. Adapted materials for people with disabilities and programs for the entire family are available during this time.
